ROCKMAN / MEGAMAN
PC ENGINE Super CD

Description

Rockman (known as Megaman in the USA and in Europe) was Capcom's kickoff to one of the most successful franchises in videogame history. Rockman started out on the Famicom (NES) in 1987, had lots of sequels and spinoffs on systems like the SNES, Mega Drive, Playstation, Saturn and only recently saw new sequels on the Wii, XBox360 and even the PS3.

The PC Engine version is a faithful conversion of the 1987 NES Original. It requires a system version 3.0 or higher (or PCE Duo system) to be played. So if you have a "suitcase" PCE unit, you need a Super System Card in order to play this Super CD release.

The highly limited release comes sealed along with jewel case * , CD front and back inlay, folded full-size manual (with poster motive on the backside), registration card and spine card. It features gorgeous artworks and fits every PC Engine collection perfectly. Extremely limited quantities to commemerate the PC Engine's 25th anniversary in 2012, so make sure to order your copy today!

SPACE FANTASY ZONE
PC ENGINE CD

Description

Space Fantasy Zone is a mix between Fantasy Zone (Sega's 2D Shoot'em ups featuring Opa Opa) and Space Harrier (Sega's legendary Pseudo 3D shoot'em up). The game was programmed and advertised by Nec Avenue on various occasions between 1990 and 1992, but never saw a proper release. It's not really known why, but probably due to rights issues in the licensing process with Sega.

A mediocre CD-R version has been available in Japan since the late 90s. Cover and backside were color-copied from a flyer Nec released to distributors shortly before an anticipated release in 1992. The version available always suffered from faulty audio which caused cracking sounds and delayed audio when a new track was played. Prices on Yahoo Japan auctions were ranging from 30,000 to 60,000yen nevertheless.

The small-run version available now has corrected audio tracks, comes with jewel case * , high-quality cover artwork, back-inlay, spinecard and a mini-poster featuring the ad from a 90s PC Engine Fan issue plus the preview article from another PC Engine magazine back in the times. It's highly collectable all around and fits perfectly into any PC Engine collection. The game plays on all System Card versions, so there's no need for System 3.0 card or an Arcade Card.

GINGA FUKEI DENSETSU SAPPHIRE
PC ENGINE Arcade CD

Description

Sapphire is a legendary 2D shoot’em up released for the PC Engine Arcade Card addon towards the end of the PC Engine’s lifespan. The game pushes the PCE’s hardware to it’s absolute limits. The orchestral score is fantastic and the graphics gorgeous - even outperforming many of the later on released 32-bit shoot’em ups.

While not this hard to find (if looking in the right places), Sapphire has always been extremely expensive. Released at a normal price tag in the early 90s, the game has always been in the US$500 price range nevertheless (and recently reaching a new high at more than US$800). Around 1999 or 2000 some shops in Tokyo started to offer “alternative” prints of the game - unfortunately not telling (or knowing) what they are selling. Even today you’ll run a 50% chance of buying one of the “alternative” prints when shopping in Tokyo after this game.

The reprint had been sold out for some years, but to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the PC Engine in 2012, a few more copies are available. These come complete with jewel case * , full manual, inlay, registration card and spinecard. Still quantities are limited, so make sure to get yours today! An Arcade Card Duo or Arcade Card Pro is required to play Sapphire on the original hardware. Emulators like Magic Engine support Arcade CDs without any problems.
